Writing Emotion

Posted by AJ Blythe at Monday, January 18, 2010

I love that saying. When I think of books that I hold dear, the ones I read and read again, they are the ones that make me feel I'm part of the story. They draw me in until I'm laughing or crying with them.

It's this emotion I want to bring into my stories. But how do I do it? And how do I know that I've done it?

In the next few weeks I'll be hearing back from judges (and possibly editors) from various places I've sent my manuscript. I guess how much they loved or hated my writing will reflect how much I drew them into my story. Fingers crossed they read with emotion. If not, then I will follow the words of the other saying and hope next time I fail better ;)

I love that quote. It really says it all. A bit of a light bulb moment for me actually. And fingers crossed for that feedback.

The next few weeks will come and go and you will be rewarded with a direction. I'm sure your writing will create lasting impressions. --- In the fullness of time the judges and editors will be remembered as your first paying customers. (I have my fingers crossed as well.) ---- Eric

Hi Anita
I have my fingers crossed too. I reckon you're a legend for getting the bloody ms off, after so much hard work.

You're a success already.

Jenn, Eric and Shayne... thanks all so much for your words of support. It's so wonderful having friends like you guys.

And Jenn, how wonderful you got a lightbulb moment! They're awesome when they strike - and often at the moest unlikely of times ;)

Hey Kez. That quote does resonate, doesn't it. Probably more so at the moment than at other times - gotta love edits, lol.

Hi Anita,
they are two great quotes, they really speak to me.

Hope you get some good news soon from judges and editors.

Thanks Ebony :) I'm such a sucker for quotes for inspiration, I have my faves on my desk.

Thanks for the good luck wishes.

That's a good quote. Reminds me of the Chekhov one.

"Don't tell me the moon is shining; show me the glint of light on broken glass."

Wishing you all the best with your contest entries and submissions.

Oooh, hadn't heard the Chekhov one before Cathryn. They are such good illustrations of showing not telling, aren't they!

Thanks for the wishes :)
