If you write one story, it may be bad; if you write a hundred, you have the odds in your favor.

The way texting and the like has afffected people's use of grammar gets up my nose, and when this landed in my inbox I had to share...

In the world of hi-tech gadgetry, I've noticed that more and more people who send text messages and emails have long forgotten the "art" of capitalization.

Those of you who fall into this world, please take note of the statement below. I cannot stress enough how grammar is very important to it.

Capitalization is the difference between helping your Uncle Jack off his horse and helping your uncle jack off his horse.

Love to Write

This is what I am doing again now that life has settled down and I can focus on my writing. I missed writing for pleasure but it still took a little to climb back on, to realise the thrill of putting my story down - it's hard to get back into the groove - but now that I have I've truly rediscovered the love affair I'd had to put on hold.

I'm whole again.

Get it down.
Take chances.
It may be bad, but it's the only way you can do anything really good.

Hug O'War

Had a bit of a rough time of late and found this poem which really resonated with me so I wanted to share...

I will not play at tug o’war.
I’d rather play at hug o’war,
Where everyone hugs
Instead of tugs,
Where everyone giggles
And rolls on the rug,
Where everyone kisses,
And everyone grins,
And everyone cuddles,
And everyone wins.

by Shel Silverstein (from Where the Sidewalk Ends)

Back to Writing

Posted by AJ Blythe at Thursday, May 05, 2011 2 comments
This year I had to return to study. If I'd had the choice I wouldn't have, but unfortunately it was necessary to keep my job. It has been a challenge trying to juggle work, home life, writing and study - something had to give and unfortunately it was writing.

I didn't stop writing, but it slowed to a crawl. I've been plotting. In fact I tried out a few different storylines until I found the one that felt *right* for me at the moment. I haven't started writing, but that is about to change as I have just submitted my last assessment item.

It is going to be a challenge getting my head back into non-technical mode. Hopefully it won't take long. I am so very much looking forward to writing again. To try and make up for the delay in starting my new ms I am aiming for between 5k and 6k per week. We'll see. The progress bar on the side of my blog will let you know how I go.

Write freely and as rapidly as possible and throw the whole thing on paper. Never correct or rewrite until the whole thing is down. Rewriting in process is usually found to be an excuse for not going on.
