A Great Story

Below is a talk Andrew Stanton (writer of Toy Story, A Bug's Life, Finding Nemo and Wall-E) gave on 'Clues to a Great Story'.

One of his theories really resonated with me - he calls it the unifying theory of 2+2. His explanation was that you don't give the audience the answer, you let them work it out for themselves, so don't give them 4, give them 2+2.

There are a few other points that struck a chord, but I'll let you watch for yourself...

The VPA Happy Dance

I've finalled in the Valerie Parv Award. Happy dance time!!

First place wins Valerie as a mentor for a year. Wonderful for me if I win, possibly scary for Valerie if I do, lol.

Regardless of what happens (the placings are announced at RWA's awards dinner at the August conference) I'm thrilled to have made the top 6 of 80 entries, and wish my fellow finalists (Madeline Ash, Bridget Gray, Cornelia Kamp, Bronwyn McEvoy and Cassandra Samuels) all the best.
